SISTER THERESA'S CLASS 1956/57

Sr Theresa's Grade 5 Class, 1956/57
(Click on the picture to enlarge it)
Today's post jumps ahead a hundred years or so from yesterday's post.  However, I think this is a good one!  I hope you do too.  It is a picture of Sr Theresa's Grade Five Class and it was taken in June 1957.  I think it was taken by everyone's favourite, Sr Mary Immaculata!  Don't we all look innocent sitting there on the School steps?

Front Row:  Judy Comerford, Sheila Bulger
Row 2:  Beth Anne McAllister, Mary Elizabeth Kennedy, Mary Patricia Loftus, Lucy Power, Mary Glynn, Bernadette Mansfield, Diane Walsh, Eleanor Simms, Patricia Stafford, Margaret Power
Row 3:  Elizabeth Meaney, Patsy Whiffen, Jeanette Roy, Gloria Connors, Emma Doyle, Patsy Arsenault, Marie Furey, Mary Power, Florence Evans, Betty Gallivan, Patricia Murphy
Row 4:  Betty Simms, Elizabeth Flynn, Mary Johnson, Carmel Fitzgerald, Mary Whelan, Dorothy Noftall, Eileen Fowler, Bridie Colbert, Alice Prim, Margaret Hickey, Cynthia Reddy
Back Row:  Loretta Hansen, Madonna Ryan, Loretta Maher, Rosalie Brewer

I received my first slap from Sr Theresa!  I left out a decimal point in a long division sum!  I have to say that the slap did me no harm  at all - I never left a decimal point out again!

If you are on this photo and you wish to get in touch, please do so.  You can leave a message in the comments box below or send an e-mail.

I hope you enjoy the photo and I hope I got all the names and the year correct.

  1. Hi! Lovely picture! By coincidence... my name, at St.Patrick's Convent School was also Madonna Ryan... but the second girl in the back row isn't me! I was only 4 years old at the time. I didn't start school until 1960!

Thanks for all your work on this blog! It certainly is very interesting!

  3. Thank-you for sharing this picture & Sr. Immaculata's class pic. I picked out my sister, Betty Gallivan and a dear family friend Sheila Bulger before checking the names.. amazing after all these years to glimpse back to a moment in time.

Betty's granddaughter, Vanessa is around the same age now as when this picture was taken of her grandmother and the resemblence is striking. How do I get a copy of both pictures?
    Thanks again, Joan Gallivan

  4. Hello Anonymous

It is nice to hear from you. I remember Betty Gallivan. She was a pretty girl & very nice. I think you lived on Patrick St by the Whites. I was in Betty's class for a lot of our years at St Patrick's. I have not seen Betty for years & years. Of course, I have lived away for 36 years so that might have something to do with not seeing her!

Anyway, if you would like me to, I will e-mail a copy of both pictures to you. Or perhaps you could just take the pictures from this blog. Just right click on the picture then click save picture as. That should send it to your pictures on your computer. Try that & if it doesn't work, let me know & I will e-mail the pictures to you.

Iam looking for a good friend that I lost contact with many years ago. Does anyone know where Margaret Madonna O'neil, formerly of Barters Hill, Saint Johns NFLD, who moved to Toronto in 1965,can be located? She was born in Sept. 1943 or 1944 so she would be around 69 years old. Anyone knowing her can give her my phone number 252 771 2955 or call me collect. Thanks very much. Johnny R. ponder.
