In 1871, St Patrick’s Day was just as
important as it is today – but in a very different way! In preparation for the great Saint’s Day, a
special Novena began in St Patrick’s Parish on 8th March. For the next nine days the Rosary, a Sermon
and Benediction took place in the chapel and the parishioners attended in great
numbers.
Yep, it was definitely different from today! However, I am certain that when the big day, 17th March, finally arrived, our Patron Saint was well celebrated!
