Once upon a time, a school stood here. This was St Patrick's Convent School, erected in 1921 as a Memorial to the men and boys of the parish who lost their lives in WWI. Now it is gone.

This is our church, erected by the free labour, hard work and pennies of our ancestors. Through generations this church has been maintained by the free labour, hard work and pennies of their children and of their children's children. We must not lose this beautiful, historic church.

This plaque was at the back of our church. It encourages us to look to the future with hope. Let's do what we can to save our church, trust in God, and never lose hope.

ST PATRICK, PRAY FOR US.
It would be heartbreaking to see St. Patrick's sold. So many generations of my family attended and called it their Parrish. Whether it was for Sunday Mass, marriages, Baptisms, Funerals and all Sacrements. So many memories.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, it is heartbreaking. So many people, including myself, have their whole faith history bound to St Patrick's. Hopefully we will emerge from this awful time better Catholics with a greater appreciation of what we have. Perhaps we have taken it all for granted before. We will need our priests more than ever because we can have Mass and Sacraments without a church but not without a priest so I hope they won't be tempted to seek greener pastures. May God help us all.
