TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO 12, DEFINITELY OLDIES!

Today I have some definitely oldies!  It is a long time since this uniform was worn. Again, it is a random selection of photos that have been submitted over the years.  If you  are in any of these photos you are, like me, not 21 anymore πŸ˜‰.

TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO11, MORE REUNIONS!

It seems St Patrick's girls have this strange little quirk.  They just can't stay apart!   That's definitely a beautiful little quirk to have. Here they are again, various groups meeting up over the years in happy get togethers.  Well done ladies!  Lets keep the reunions going and enjoy one another as long as possible.

TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO 10, ALL ABOUT MAY

The month of May held many customs and traditions.  Some are still observed, some have dwindled considerably and others have completely disappeared.  One which I am pretty sure disappeared with the closure of our Catholic Schools is the wearing of the blue ribbon and medal in honour of Our Lady. Oh, and May Altars.  Remember those lovely May Altars in classrooms and even in some of our homes?

Another tradition was the daily recitation of the Rosary.  When the Virgin Mary appeared to the three children at Fatima in 1917, she asked that the Rosary be prayed daily.

Of course there was that wonderful and still continuing tradition of getting away for the 24th weekend!  Up to the cabin or to a favourite fishing spot for a revitalizing breath of fresh air - never mind that it could very well snow!  That didn't diminish the pleasure of the 24th weekend one iota.

The St Patrick's Girls went off for the weekend too. Lawrence Pond or Seal Cove, anywhere at all, they were together and they enjoyed themselves!

Audrey Dawe-Sheppard reminded me of the beautiful May Crownings that were such a part of our young lives.  We sang some very lovely hymns and one of my favourites was this one, sung here by Emmett Cahill.

I hope you will enjoy this little look back at the month of May.  If you have any memories, stories or pictures of May, Mary's month. please share them with us.  You can send them to me at mcallistersmith@gmail.com.

TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO 9, SOME OF OUR TEACHERS

Once again, I remind you that these pictures are not from twenty five years ago. They are a selection of submitted photos that were previously posted on the St Patrick's School Blog.  I am reposting them to commemorate the TWENTY FIVE YEARS that have passed since the last St Patrick's Convent School closed, in June 1999. It is another trip down Memory Lane.  I hope you remember someone here.

TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO 8, A BIT OF THIS AND A BIT OF THAT

THESE PICTURES ARE NOT  TWENTY FIVE YEARS OLD!  Twenty five years refers to the number of years since the last St Patrick's Convent School closed in June 1999.  They are a random selection of photos that were previously posted on our St Patrick's Blog.   I hope you will enjoy seeing them again. Thank you to all who contributed them.  It is greatly appreciated.

TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO 7, MORE MUSIC, DANCE AND SONG

Did you know that the Presentation Sisters were the first teachers in Newfoundland to introduce music into schools on a daily basis? Well they were and that musical tradition was carried on down through all the years and in all their schools province wide.  This post shows St Patrick's Pupils enjoying the music, song and dance opportunities on offer. I am grateful to all the people who have contributed these wonderful photos. Thank you so much for your help.

TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO 6 (MUSIC, SONG AND DANCE, CONTINUED)

I had to do this separately from the rest of the post because, for some unknown reason (at least "unknown" to me πŸ˜…) it just would not come up.  I hope it works this time because this is an amazing piece of St Patrick's musical history. I love it and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
